Webelos
Webelos is an approximately 18 month program for 4th and 5th grade children to prepare to join a BSA Scout troop while learning outdoor skills and participating in 20 different activity badges. A well-run group of Webelos is a gradual change from being an 'adult-run' den to being a 'child-run' patrol ready to fit right into an adventurous scouting troop.
The Webelos program is the part of the Cub Scout program of the Boy Scouts of America that is geared towards fourth grade (Webelos I) and fifth grade (Webelos II) students. Pronounced "WEE-buh-los", the word "Webelos" means WE'll BE LOyal Scouts.
Webelos is a program that is an average of 18 months. This is a transitional program that shifts the emphasis from home-centered activities to group-centered activities. This is done in preparation for the transition into BSA Scouts.
Webelos will provide your child with a variety of new experiences. These experiences are aimed to help them assume responsibilities and maturity, knowledge, and skills that will aid them throughout life.
Most of the progress through Webelos will take place through activities centered around advancement. These advancements are earned through activity badges and other awards. There are 20 activities that focus on different subjects in the areas of physical skills, mental skills, community, technology, and the outdoors. The entire den will work together as a group to complete the activities. Each activity has its own array of hands-on activities and fascinating information that will enrich your child's life.
